Sergio (aka DJ Tonito) comes from a family with Milonga tradition which began with his mother’s father who used to dance Tango in different bars and clubs of Valparaíso, a Chilean port city where Tango has had a feverish settlement. Grand orchestras like “Alfredo de Angelis”, “Miguel Calo”, “Lomuto”, “Pugliese”, “Anibal Troilo” and so many others marked Chile’s bohemia.
Sergio, at age 8, makes his first approach to Tango in Hamburg, Germany. While his mother, Ana Maria Cepeda, attends regular lessons and practices, music starts growing inside him and becomes an important part of his life. In 2003, at age 14, he takes his first formal lessons in Santiago de Chile with the person who has become not only his teacher but his most important influence until today, Carlitos Espinoza, who trained him as Tango dancer and DJ.
However, Sergio’s mother, organizer of the prestigious “Milonga Anichi”, is the first person to convey a deep identification and passion for Tango music, and it is precisely here where, in 2007, Sergio makes his debut as DJ, leaving a permanent mark in his heart. Thanks to his particular spark and sensitivity Sergio becomes, until today, Milonga Anichi’s regular DJ. In this group, he has the opportunity to share the scene with Osvaldo and Coca Cartery (2004 World Champions of Tango Salon), who have had a great influence in his dancing style and musicality.
Another important influence in Sergio’s career is the maestro and dancer Alejandro Sanguinetti, owner of the traditional dance studio “Universo Tango Club” in Hamburg. Here, at age 19, he collaborates with classes, exhibitions and becomes one of its regular DJ’s.
Dj Tonito begins his career in Valparaíso and from there on he has been able to expand nationally and internationally, standing out in events of various formats: Milongas, Festivals, Dance marathons, Competitions and Meetings of Milongueros. Countries like Chile, Argentina, Italy, France and Germany have been able to enjoy and dance thanks to his unique style and a subtle touch who is capable of transporting his audiences to diverse musical landscapes. As a “milonguero” DJ Tonito knows how to keep the fire alive on the dance floor.
